Transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 was known as a suppressive factor of epithelial cells. Moreover, TGF-β1 has multiple functions such as induction of tissue fibrosis, EMT
(Epithelial –mesenchymal transition), chondrogenesis, and regulation of pluripotency. TGF-β1 is secreted from producer cells as latent and transformed to active form.
